Lu Han, a graduate student in the Department of Macromolecular Science and Engineering, received an Honorable Mention Award for Excellence in Thermoset Polymer Research from the Thermoset Resin Formulators Association (TRFA).
Han received the honors for her paper “Application of Fundamental Understanding in Molecular Design of Very High Performance Polybenzoxazines.”
As an awardee, Han was invited to present her work at the TRFA Annual Meeting held earlier in March in Nashville and received a $500 prize.
Han’s research explores the optimal molecular design for making polybenzoxazines. This relatively new thermoset material has low flammability, high thermal stability, and excellent mechanical and chemical resistance properties, making it a good fit for a wide range of industrial applications, including composite materials for the car and aerospace industries, manufacturing of non-flammable materials and electronic packaging.
